Saint-Bris, the exception of Burgundy

Labyrinthine cellars

Located 10 km from Auxerre, the village of Saint-Bris-le-Vineux sits upon extraordinary medieval cellars, true underground labyrinths, which are probably the most impressive in Burgundy. But this is not the only feature of this village, because an unexpected grape variety is cultivated here, a grape variety more common to the slopes of the neighbouring wine region, the Loire. The Sauvignon AOC Saint-Bris is therefore unique in Burgundy.

Saint-Bris was awarded its village appellation in 2003 and refers only to white wines made from Sauvignon grapes. Rather lively on tasting, Sauvignon de Saint-Bris offers a beautiful aromatic complexity with notes of citrus (grapefruit, mandarin), white fruit, with a spicy, iodized finish. Saint Bris can be enjoyed young but can also be kept for a number of years.
